In the innovative laser method ReLEx Smile (Small Incision Lenticle Extraction), a single femtosecond laser, the VisuMax (Zeiss), is used to prepare a corneal disc (lenticule) inside the cornea to perform vision correction. It is then removed through a small incision of 2-3 mm.
A corneal flap is not necessary. Because the cornea remains almost intact, ReLEx Smile is ideal for contact lens intolerance and dry eyes. Showering is allowed on the same evening, and even sport the day after the procedure Sport.
1. Femtosecond laser creates the lower edge, 2. Femtosecond laser creates the upper edge, 3. This creates a lens-shaped disc (lenticle) in the cornea, 4. Femtosecond laser creates a small incision (approx. 2-3 mm), 5. The lenticle is removed through the incision ("keyhole"), 6. Cornea is thinner, refractive power changed = optimal vision
The procedure is completely painless. The healing phase is greatly shortened thanks to the minimally invasive technique.
