Defibrillator implantation

Malignant heart rhythm disturbances such as ventricular fibrillation can lead to sudden cardiac death. Implantable defibrillators can act preventively and life-prolonging: The electrodes automatically detect the heart rhythm disturbance and can then deliver an electric shock. The defibrillators are inserted below the collarbone similar to a pacemaker.
