Catheter-based aortic valve implantation is a way to treat patients without a heart-lung machine and opening the chest. Especially patients over 75 or those with an increased surgical risk benefit from this procedure. A folded aortic valve is usually pushed through the groin in a catheter on the beating heart to the diseased own valve, where it is finally implanted and immediately goes into operation. After sufficient monitoring, especially of the heart rhythm, patients can usually be discharged home after an average of three days.
