Science meets Wellness: Dr. Jörg Hummen, Medical Director of Chenot Palace Weggis, on Luxury Abstinence
You are actually an engineer. How did it come about that you switched to medicine?During my diploma thesis in engineering, I developed and patented an instrument for minimally invasive surgery. For the continuation of further projects, I wanted to acquire a solid medical base, which could only be achieved through medical studies. In the course of my medical career, I then developed more and more of an integrative, holistic approach.
The Chenot Method is based on a similar principle, right? It combines the principles of traditional Chinese medicine with the latest scientific insights from Western conventional medicine and the most modern diagnostic technology. Over the past 50 years, Chenot has developed and refined a unique method consisting of specific treatments and nutritional plans.
These are intended to synergistically support and stimulate the body to eliminate toxins, thereby increasing vitality and energy levels and bringing the body's physiology back into balance. The individual is treated on a holistic level, rather than focusing on individual symptoms.
Another foundation at Chenot Palace Weggis is the so-called hormesis – what can one imagine by that?Essentially, hormesis works like a vaccine, where a modulated dose of a stressor triggers a defensive, adaptive response in the body. For example, it is exposed to a calorie-reduced diet, energetic massages, hot and cold temperatures, low and high oxygen concentrations, light frequencies, or anti-gravity technology.
The organism responds by establishing its own internal medicine and regains energy, functionality, and harmony. This improves overall health, slows down the aging process, and promotes resilience against stress both mentally and physically.

And what is the most effective detoxification method?
For us, there are three pillars: the first consists of a precisely composed calorie-reduced vegetarian diet at a star level, without caffeine and alcohol for at least seven days.
The second pillar includes hydrotherapy treatments, specific massages, and physical activities such as weightless running or simulated altitude training.
The third: We offer a wide range of optional treatments, such as cryo-applications, light therapies, neurofeedback, and nutritional counseling.
What does the nutrition plan at Chenot Palace Weggis look like?
The Chenot diet is a plant-based diet that activates the body's fasting mode while ensuring adequate nutrition and minimizing the negative side effects of traditional fasting, such as muscle breakdown and nutrient deficiency.
Food not only provides energy, it can also be a form of therapy. Evidence-based research acknowledges that regular calorie-reduced nutrition with sufficient micronutrient intake is a key component of long-term well-being, disease prevention, and a potential advantage for longevity. It can support the body's self-healing mechanisms, cleanse it down to the cellular level, reduce inflammation, strengthen the immune system, and harmonize the hormonal balance.
What health trends are you particularly focused on right now?
On non-substantial detoxification and deceleration. In times of constant information overload, inner peace, contemplation, organization of thoughts, and the (re)acquisition of a positive basic mood are more important than ever. We develop individually tailored programs with personal support, if necessary, also worldwide beyond the stay with us.
