Lipedema is a chronic condition of the fat tissue that almost exclusively affects women. It is characterized by symmetrical fat accumulations on the legs and/or arms, often accompanied by a feeling of heaviness, tension, Pain as well as an increased tendency for bruising. Although lipedema is not caused by being overweight, it is often mistakenly diagnosed as such, making early detection more difficult.
The treatment of lipedema is carried out individually and in several steps. Conservative therapeutic approaches include compression therapy, manual lymphatic drainage, exercise therapy, and a conscious Nutrition. These measures aim to relieve symptoms and prevent deterioration. In advanced stages, surgical treatment in the form of lymph-sparing liposuction may become necessary. In this procedure, the pathologically accumulated fatty tissue is specifically removed to reduce pain and improve mobility.
As important as the actual treatment is the structured aftercare. Regular Lymphatic drainage, consistent compression therapy and targeted exercise therapy support the long-term stabilization of the results. Additionally, a nutritional medical consultation can be useful to enhance personal well-being and prevent the progression of the disease.
Overall, a holistic treatment approach aims to noticeably improve the quality of life of those affected and help them find more ease in everyday life.
