Nasenchirurgie München
Medical craftsmanship of the highest order
Nasal surgery is far more than a purely operative activity – it is the combination of medical precision, aesthetic sense, and a deep understanding of the wishes and concerns of patients. For Prof. Dr. med. Johannes A. Veit, specialist in ENT medicine, head and neck surgery, plastic operations, and plastic facial surgery, nasal surgery means lifelong learning, constant further development of techniques and processes, and jointly developing solutions that are both functional and aesthetically convincing. He accompanies his patients not only in the moment of joy over a successful result, but also in cases where further adjustments are necessary. This understanding of the entire journey – from consultation to surgery to aftercare – shapes his work and his approach as an excellent, above all empathetic, surgeon.
The native of Munich completed his medical studies up to the first state examination in Munich, then moved to the University of Freiburg, where he successfully completed his studies in 2005. He then began his specialist training initially in general surgery in Heidelberg, but after a year switched to the fields of head and neck surgery and ENT, moving first to Hamburg and then to Ulm. There, Dr. Veit worked for eight years as a senior physician at the University Hospital Ulm, where he completed his habilitation. He then moved to the Medical Faculty of Mannheim, where, after four years as a plastic-reconstructive senior physician, he was awarded an extraordinary professorship by Heidelberg University. During his years in Mannheim, he also worked part-time with Prof. Riedel in a specialty practice for nasal surgery. Prof. Veit performed several thousand operations during this time, gaining extensive experience in all areas of rhinoplasty - from functional procedures to highly complex aesthetic corrections. International fellowships led him in 2017 to world-renowned specialists in Canada, the USA, and the Netherlands, where he deepened his knowledge of the latest techniques in plastic-aesthetic and reconstructive surgery. With successful examination in London, he received recognition as a “Board Certified Facial Plastic Surgeon” (IBCFPRS) - a certificate that only recognized experts in this field may carry.
In 2021, he returned to his hometown of Munich and opened his own practice near the historic Isartor in the summer. The very elegant and stylish office of the specialist is located in a beautiful building in the style of the German Renaissance. In the summer of 2021, the consultation practice initially consisted of five rooms, including a waiting room and two doctor's rooms, where consultations, follow-up examinations, and aftercare take place. A year later, the dedicated doctor took advantage of the opportunity to expand the practice on the same floor and installed a surgical procedure room on the now 240 square meters, which meets the latest standards - including an operating area and recovery room. Here, procedures can be performed under general anesthesia, and patients are optimally monitored thanks to innovative monitoring beds with video and cardiovascular monitoring.
"Most procedures are performed on an outpatient basis, which most patients prefer. Nevertheless, there is also the option of an overnight stay in a nearby private clinic," explains Prof. Veit.

Prof. Veit's surgical spectrum covers the entire range of modern nasal surgery. In the so-called septo-rhinoplasty, both the outer shape and the inner structure of the nose are changed so that functional improvements and aesthetic corrections can go hand in hand. Whether straightening, reduction, lifting of the nasal tip, reduction of the nostrils, or even enlargement of a nose that is too small - the goal is always a natural, harmonious result. A particular focus is also on revision surgery after previous rhinoplasties. These procedures are considered particularly challenging, as they often involve asymmetries, scars, or impairments of nasal breathing. Prof. Veit brings great experience to correct unwanted effects and achieve stable, sustainable results through the use of the body's cartilage from the ear or rib. Functional procedures such as septoplasty - straightening of the nasal septum - are also part of his spectrum. It can be performed alone or in combination with a rhinoplasty to permanently improve nasal breathing. In addition, the ENT specialist is an expert in endoscopic sinus surgery, which can treat changes to the maxillary sinus or ethmoid system in the context of a nasal operation.
The physician places special emphasis on modern, gentle techniques that guarantee his patients a safe treatment and natural results. With the dorsal preservation technique - nasal bridge preservation - it is possible to correct a nasal hump without unnecessarily affecting the natural anatomy of the nose. The breathing function and the long-term aesthetic result especially benefit from this method. Equally innovative is the application of piezosurgery: Instead of using a hammer and chisel, Prof. Veit works with high-precision ultrasound technology that shapes the nasal bone millimeter-precisely while protecting the surrounding tissue. This allows for corrections to be made gently and precisely. "The beauty of this modern surgery is that it is very low in complications. The anesthesia is very well tolerated, and pain and swelling are usually moderate," reveals the doctor. "Ultimately, you might suffer a little for about 72 hours, then the swelling process begins, and the discomfort quickly subsides."
As a scientist and researcher, Prof. Veit has produced more than 70 internationally published papers with multiple author teams.

Photo computer simulation with the creation of "before and after" images is also a valuable tool. Before the operation, the desired change can already be simulated. This allows for a clear and realistic idea of the possible outcome, facilitates decision-making, and ensures transparency throughout the treatment process. In addition to all the medical expertise and technical know-how, Prof. Veit offers his patients another very important aspect in the treatment spectrum: time. "A consultation with me usually lasts 30 to 40 minutes, during which all factors are thoroughly and understandably discussed. The people who come to me may have been thinking about surgery for years - it is my duty to advise and treat them as best as possible. And that can't be done in a hurry," says the empathetic doctor. Therefore, every procedure is individually planned by him, carefully carried out, and intensively followed up. His aim is to create results that not only look good in photos but also prove their worth in everyday life: natural, harmonious, functional, and lasting. Thus, nasal surgery becomes a path that goes far beyond changing an external detail - it can boost self-confidence, enhance well-being, and sustainably improve the sense of life.
In the last ten years, he has intensely focused on functional and aesthetic techniques of rhinoplasty. In doing so, he worked with luminaries such as Prof. Dean Toriumi from Chicago, Dr. Milos Kovacevic from Hamburg, or Prof. Dr. Frank Riedel, as well as other internationally recognized figures in nasal surgery. The focus here was on dorsal preservation surgery, soft tissue management with the body's transplantation of fat tissue and growth factors such as PRF (platelet-rich fibrin).
Another important part of his professional philosophy is to pass on knowledge. As a professor and university lecturer at Heidelberg University, Prof. Veit is passionately involved in training and mentoring the next generation of head and neck and nasal surgeons. He gives lectures, seminars, and internships, supervises scientific work and doctoral candidates, and thus lays a foundation for the future of plastic facial surgery. At the same time, he remains a learner himself: attending international conferences such as the Preservation Rhinoplasty Meeting in Nice or Istanbul, the Las Vegas Aesthetic Conference, or courses in Vienna, Lisbon, and the USA allows him to stay on the pulse of the latest developments and integrate innovative procedures into his practice.
