Dementias

Dementias

Dementias are diseases that are associated with a disturbance of memory function. The most common disease is Alzheimer's disease – an organic brain disease that leads to a slow degeneration of nerve cells in the brain. Typical protein deposits (amyloid plaques and tau fibrils) are also found there.

Symptoms include memory and orientation disorders, speech disorders, disorders of thinking and judgment, as well as changes in personality. They vary in severity and increase over time. Warning signs are forgetfulness, word-finding difficulties, loss of orientation.

The Diagnosis is done through blood tests, MRI, CT, and cerebrospinal fluid examinations. Some clinics offer a dementia consultation for an initial assessment. The therapy is carried out with an individual treatment plan, with medication, or more recently with antibody therapy (see also therapies).
