Treatment Methods

Mental health matters. Mental health counts - as emphasized by the World Health Organization (WHO), it is a fundamental human right. Stable mental well-being enables us to face the daily challenges of life with strength and serenity, whether in a private or professional environment. It allows us to fully utilize our abilities, deal productively with the demands of everyday life, and maintain fulfilling relationships with our fellow human beings - whether in the family, circle of friends, or society. In addition, science clearly shows that a healthy psyche also strengthens our physical health and thus positively influences our quality of life and even life expectancy.

Unfortunately, mental health cannot always be maintained, as numerous factors can affect it at any time. Many of these disorders are very treatable, especially if recognized early and professional help is offered. Nevertheless, the supply is often difficult: The supply of services is confusing, and it can be challenging to recognize qualified offers and distinguish them from less suitable ones. In addition, long waiting times in phases when timely treatment would be urgently needed lead to an increased risk of chronicity. Despite the widespread prevalence of mental disorders it is still difficult for society to openly deal with it. Reservations remain, which is why discretion and professionalism in treatment are essential.

    Hurdles of psychosomatics

These barriers often make it difficult for those affected to take the necessary steps. It is often difficult to recognize the point at which professional help is required. In addition, there are still fears of contact with a discipline that, although more open and modern today, still suffers from the outdated and burdensome image of the "asylum psychiatry" of the 19th century. That is why the WHO made the issue of mental health a top priority in 2019 and conceived action plans and special initiatives to improve care for mental illnesses worldwide, which are gradually beginning to take effect.

The fact is: Almost every third person worldwide suffers from a mental disorder at some point in their life – and the trend is increasing, not least due to current stressors and crises such as the Covid-19 pandemic. Depressive disorders are the most common; one in five people will at some point be diagnosed with a depression However, like many other illnesses, this one is also easily treatable - provided that timely professional and qualified therapeutic support is sought.
