Wrinkle injection with autologous fat

Increasingly at the center of interest is autologous fat transplantation. The doctor removes the required amount of fatty tissue (just like with liposuction) from the abdomen, back, or thighs, prepares it and then places it in the desired dosage at the site to be treated. With autologous fat, wrinkles can be smoothed out, contours changed, or volume built up, for example in the face, breasts, buttocks, or calves. The fat cells are the body's own tissue and are not recognized as 'foreign' by the immune system. For this reason, autologous fat transplants are generally well tolerated. They also last longer than other biomaterials such as hyaluronic acid.

BEFORE THE OPERATION

Before the procedure, a detailed consultation is essential. Personal expectations should be addressed as well as the possibilities, advantages, and disadvantages of the method and alternatives.

PERFORMANCE OF THE OPERATION

Depending on the extent of the operation, autologous fat transplantation can be performed on an outpatient or inpatient basis. Local anesthesia is often sufficient, for larger procedures general anesthesia is recommended. Depending on the planned transplantation, fatty tissue is first carefully removed from the abdomen, thighs, inside of the knees, buttocks, or chin. This can be combined with liposuction. The fat cells are then cleaned and prepared before the surgeon injects them into the desired areas using thin cannulas.

RISKS

Swelling often occurs in the operated region. They can, for example, be quite large during lip augmentation and last for weeks. The introduced fatty tissue is only partially moldable. Sometimes there is hardening. A volume loss of 30 to 50% can be expected in the first three to six months. General surgical risks include bruising, bleeding, accumulation of fluid in the tissue, infections, and wound healing disorders.

AFTER THE OPERATION

Sports, sauna, and solarium should be avoided for four to six weeks. The final result is visible after about three months.
