This is how the ultimate winter glow-up works

Content creator Juliane Diesner (@styleshiver) reveals her self-care routines and tips for inner and outer radiance.

As an absolute summer person, I find it a bit harder to adjust to the cooler seasons, so I like to incorporate small rituals into my daily routine to make the transition easier. In summer, it's easier to feel fresh and healthy. The skin is slightly tanned, the glow makes us shine, and the hair - kissed by the sun - shines.

We don't want to lose this radiance in autumn and winter, so I've put together a few of my personal tips for an ultimate winter glow up . I must admit, the colder season does bring a few advantages with it.

Because who doesn't like to get really cozy? Not feeling guilty about not leaving the house on a rainy Sunday, spending the entire day on the couch or in bed, reading. Candlelight. A glass of red wine. Bathtub and watching your favorite series. Oh yes, there are also some things we can look forward to.

1) Infrared sauna or baths with alkaline mineral salts

We don't usually have our own infrared sauna with a wellness area at home like Gwyneth Paltrow, but at least we can try to integrate infrared sauna sessions into our everyday lives within our means.

Infrared saunas are now available in almost every major city. Just one session supports the detoxification , reduces stress , has anti-inflammatory effects, promotes blood circulation in our skin, making it glow. The detox-light version would be a soothing bath with alkaline mineral salts or Epsom salts. When I feel like my skin is getting a bit impure, an alkaline bath often works wonders.

2) Oil treatments for hair from rosemary and olive oil

I didn't think it, but oil treatments for hair really help. You just have to be consistent and take the time at least once a week, for a few hours before washing your hair or overnight, to work a thick layer of oil into your hair.

Whether you like to sleep with oiled hair is, of course, a matter of taste. I usually use a mixture of rosemary oil (for the roots and scalp) and extra virgin olive oil for the lengths. The rosemary oil stimulates hair growth, and the olive oil makes beautifully smooth and shiny hair and prevents dry ends. For me, the hair combination par excellence in the cold season.

Another oil tip: integrate castor oil as the first step of your skincare routine for facial cleansing. There is hardly an oil that penetrates the skin more than castor oil, and I can't imagine my beauty routine without it. In the end, I lightly apply it to my eyelashes as well.

3) Peppermint tea in the evening

I find this simple tip nice because it's like a little ritual and has now become a regular part of my evening routine. Furthermore, peppermint tea has helped me get my hormonal acne, especially around the jawline, under control. Peppermint tea contains anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties and thus cleanses the skin from within, which has even been proven by studies.

4) Cook rice in bone broth for the extra nutrient kick

My new holy grail in terms of nutrition: not just because boring rice gets much more flavor as a result. I love the extra nutrients and the protein kick you can easily get this way. Not to mention the collagen .

For me, it's easier to incorporate the nutrients into my diet this way than if I tried to drink the bone broth straight. Of course, you can also refine and upgrade all kinds of soups with bone broth.

5) Glow up: Skin Treatments for Autumn and Winter

Perhaps the biggest advantage of abstaining from the sun for me is that I can now plan all my long-delayed skincare treatments. Now is the time for Lasers & Co., to give our sun-stressed skin a reset. At the top of my list right now is the ultra-modern LaseMD laser, a gentle, non-ablative thulium laser with virtually no downtime, which still renews the skin.

Also one of my favorite treatments in the fall is a Needling with PRP (platelet-rich plasma therapy). Another ally is my beloved retinol/retinal. Retinol, also known as vitamin A, plays a crucial role in skin renewal. However, since the application of retinol is associated with limited sun exposure, now is the ideal time for a retinol regimen.

But beware: It is important to start with a low concentration and gradually increase the application to avoid possible irritation and to get the skin used to the retinol/retinal. Additionally, sunscreen should be used during the day in any case.
