Hair is a functional carrier. They protect against particles, UV radiation, cold and heat. They are also important for outward appearance. Hair is considered a symbol of youth. They are celebrated as attributes of beauty and attractiveness. For many people, hair loss is a sign of aging that they want to counteract. But other forms of hair loss (alopecia) are also worth considering.
Aside from purely aesthetic reasons, it is important to ask why hair loss occurs before treatment:
If the patient has hereditary hair loss, an autologous hair transplant is possible in many cases. Depending on the location and extent of the bald spots, hair transplantation can lead to good to very good results.
In the case of illness-related hair loss, such as side effects of medication, the cause should first be clarified. This is done in consultation with your family doctor or treating specialist. Whether a hair transplant is an option for you and which method is best suited for you can be clarified afterwards.
The therapy of hair loss after accidents (burns, dog bite injuries, mechanical skull injuries) will take several months of treatment time and is based on tissue expansion followed by the displacement of hair-bearing parts.
In a hair transplant, not only the hairs are transplanted. Rather, it is crucial to transplant the hair follicles. This means the structure in the scalp that encloses the hair root and anchors the hair there. Only if hair grows from functioning follicles can hair loss (alopecia) be effectively combated. The prerequisite for this is that those affected still have enough of their own hair (donor hair).
Depending on the quality of the practitioner, the hair growth rate also differs, so it is advisable to find an experienced hair specialist. In comparison of the two methods, preparation of individual hairs can forego cutting, making the result appear more even and natural. Also, the hair growth rate is better.
Typically, the scalp is swollen and painful at the transplanted areas. The swelling may last several days. Cooling and pain medication relieve the symptoms. In the first few days, the hair should not be washed. The results are permanent, as the hair transplanted from the back of the head is not susceptible to normal testosterone levels.
The hair transplant is used to fill receding hairlines, high foreheads, or thinning back of the head.
In this country, doctors use two different methods: In the cheaper version, the doctor removes a piece of scalp with hair roots about 20 centimeters long and one centimeter wide from the back of the head. Hair units are then prepared from this in the laboratory.
In the second, more expensive method, the hair is prepared individually by hand or using a robot from the back of the head so that no cut is necessary. To insert the hair into the bald areas, the doctor prepares small channels on the patient's scalp, so-called recipient pockets for the transplants. The doctor may not crush the roots, „but should pull them into the channel without particular squeezing or pressure.
1. The individual removal of the hair follicle units (FUs) to be transplanted from the hair crown takes place
2. Immediately after removal, the recipient area is prepared with a tiny opening (slit).
3. The removed hair follicle units are inserted into the prepared opening without intermediate steps.
4. 4 – 6 months after the treatment, the roots gradually begin to develop new hair
