Botulinum toxin

In wrinkle therapy, botulinum toxin plays an extremely important role. Proven for decades for the treatment of muscle disorders, the substance is exceedingly well suited for treatments by plastic surgeons in lower dosages due to its ability to eliminate the root cause of wrinkle formation. In particular, facial areas that are subject to particularly active facial expressions and are therefore heavily strained in their elasticity can be smoothed out again. A second advantage of botulinum toxin is its ability to work preventively, so that the formation of wrinkles at the respective areas slows down.

And it is extremely effective: the duration of effect is up to eight months. Especially for older male and female patients who complain about bothersome neck muscle bands – the so-called "turkey neck" – targeted botulinum toxin treatment has proven to be extremely effective. The neck area is often particularly susceptible to the formation of wrinkles. If these areas can be smoothed out, the décolleté also comes into much better shape.

A typical example of botulinum toxin use of Botox is the so-called frown line formed when we knit our eyebrows. Botox reduces the facial expressions here and exerts a relaxing effect on the tissue. Incidentally, the substance has also been proven for many years in the treatment of people suffering from spasticity or certain nervous disorders. In addition, botulinum toxin therapy is generally very well suited for people who suffer from excessive sweating (especially in the underarm region).

Is a Botox treatment painful?

The doctor uses particularly thin needles for the injection, which cause hardly any pain. The minimal injection sites are no longer visible after just a few days.
