Sleep apnea / snoring

In obstructive sleep apnea, the muscles relax so much during deep sleep that the tongue slides back and blocks the airway.

Therapies: positioning aids, bite splints, or positive pressure ventilation (CPAP). There is also an innovative surgical treatment: a tongue pacemaker (hypoglossal nerve stimulation) that connects to the tongue nerves and signals the tongue to move forward during inhalation, preventing breathing interruptions.

Diagnosis is carried out in a sleep laboratory.
