Diseases of the nose and sinuses include, for example, nasal septum deviation and chronic sinus infections.
- Nasal septum deviation: obstructs nasal breathing and can be surgically corrected. Enlarged turbinates (erectile tissue) can also restrict breathing. Common causes are allergies or frequent use of nasal drops. In surgical therapy, the nasal septum is straightened and the erectile tissues are reduced. Various techniques are used depending on the symptoms and anatomical conditions.
- Chronic sinus infection: often develops from recurrent infections. Even a cold can lead to mucosal swelling and blockage of the drainage pathways. Mucus formed in the sinus can no longer drain and becomes an ideal breeding ground for bacterial infections. Therapy: With the help of computed tomography and endoscopy, constrictions are widened or removed.
