Plastic surgery of the ENT

The aim of plastic surgery in ENT medicine is to best eliminate or reduce congenital or injury-related deficits.

The surgical options include:

  • Epitheses: artificial facial parts used for cancer, malformations, or after accidents for reconstruction
  • Nose correction (rhinoplasty), see also corrections of the nasal septum and nasal conchae
  • Ear correction (otoplasty) of the auricle (for protruding ears) or earlobe
  • Reconstructions for congenital defects in the facial area, following tumor removals or accidents. Goal: e.g., rebuilding noses anew.
  • Reconstruction of facial nerves (facial reconstruction). Damage to the facial nerve after tumors, injuries, inflammations, or a stroke leads to paralysis and loss of facial expressions (facial palsy). Therapy: If medication therapies are not successful, there are various surgical reconstructive procedures. A nerve-muscle graft from the thigh can replace the nerve and at least partially restore facial expressions.
