Innovative Orthopedics & Sports Orthopedics

The modern surgical procedures, Hip- and Knee joints replacing them with artificial joints is a groundbreaking development in modern medicine. The initially used stainless steel has been replaced by new alloys and the metal titanium, the polyethylene plastic used is of higher quality, and for the hip head, manufacturers now process almost exclusively ceramic.

The surgical accesses have become more gentle, the cuts smaller, the rehabilitation after the procedure is faster. And medicine has not stopped at other joints: In the early 1980s, the first artificial knee joints were implanted, shoulder- and ankle joints followed.

Artificial joints with a long lifespan

The endoprosthetic surgeons of the Premium Medical Circle treat many thousands of patients annually with an artificial hip joint or artificial knee joint. A procedure that pays off: the expected average lifespan of an prosthetic joint can now be estimated at at least 15 years; significantly longer service lives are more the rule than the exception. The main benefit in the vast majority of cases is the pain relief achieved. And the newly acquired mobility is the biggest plus for the quality of life reported by the patients.
