Dr. med. Christian Jacobi

Ästhetik Zentrum Tegernsee

Tailored Aesthetics by the Lake

Since January 2023, the practice of Dr. Christian Jacobi, a specialist in functional and aesthetic nose corrections, plastic facial surgery, and aesthetic medicine, is located directly on the picturesque Lake Tegernsee, nestled in one of the most beautiful regions of Germany. Here, in the friendly, inviting rooms, Dr. Jacobi and his team see themselves primarily as partners of their patients on the path to better appearance, enhanced well-being, and increased quality of life. All his treatments are solely aimed at achieving natural and harmonious results that emphasize the individual's radiance.

Since his school days, the Stuttgart native has had two major areas of interest: On the one hand, he was fascinated by all health topics, and on the other, he also had a knack for craftsmanship. The question he asked himself: How can you connect both topics to help people? So, he decided on a surgical education within medical studies very early on. "Facial surgery, especially nasal surgery with its shaping and also artistic-creative aspects, impressed me the most," explains Dr. Jacobi.

"This is by no means just trivial surface surgery. The planning and surgical approach is always individual and there is no 'blueprint.' Rather, it's about the right conception and selection of various surgical techniques, the precise design of the markings, and finally the gentle handling of the tissue - all these are the variables that ultimately determine the result and ensure that the patient's individual treatment request is implemented as best as possible."

And so he completed his medical studies mainly in Munich and deepened the practical part of his studies at renowned clinics in Zurich and Cape Town. Regarding his specialist medical training, it was particularly important for Dr. Jacobi to gain access to surgical content in the head, neck, and facial areas as early as possible. Even during his studies, he attended congresses and workshops on nasal surgery and nasal reconstructions, for example with one of the world's leading nasal experts, Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Gubisch, who, as an ENT and plastic surgeon, headed the facial surgery clinic at the Marienhospital in Stuttgart.

The scene around the nasal experts inspired him so much that he decided to pursue specialist training as an ENT surgeon - initially from 2013 under the direction of the renowned nasal surgeon Prof. Dr. Alexander Berghaus at the University Hospital of Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich in Großhadern. After his retirement, Dr. Jacobi moved to the Klinikum rechts der Isar at the Technical University of Munich (TUM) and completed his specialist training in 2020.

Shortly thereafter, a great opportunity opened up for Dr. Jacobi to be involved in the establishment of a new surgical department at the Asklepios Stadtklinik Bad Tölz. As a specialist clinic under the direction of Prof. Dr. Ulrich Harréus, the focal points include head and neck tumor operations with plastic defect coverage in the head and neck area as well as plastic-reconstructive and aesthetic facial surgery, including nasal surgery, which Dr. Jacobi was responsible for as senior consultant.

Always the best and at the same time most gentle treatment

But what predestines an ENT specialist for interventions in the aesthetic area, in addition to the classic nose correction? Dr. Jacobi: “The surgical training in head and neck surgery works for most facial procedures - even beyond nose corrections - according to a didactic approach. You always start from a medically necessary procedure, but at the same time the functions and aesthetics must be harmonized in a common surgical concept. An example: Even during my training as a specialist, I performed numerous parotid gland procedures, often for tumors. In doing so, all layers of the face, including the main and side branches of the facial nerve, must be prepared, which corresponds to the more complex surgical techniques of a facelift. Likewise, the numerous reconstructions, for example after facial nerve paralysis and tumors, require a surgical repositioning of the eyebrows, eyelids, or corners of the mouth, which technically corresponds to the same functional-aesthetic interventions as those used in primary cosmetic surgery.”

As much as the dedicated doctor's heart beats for the far-reaching field of ENT medicine, he has established himself as an expert in the field of plastic-aesthetic facial surgery through his many years of intensive training, performing numerous medical and aesthetic nose corrections and facial procedures in this area. Because he strives for nothing less than - in medical as well as primarily cosmetic indications - always finding the best and at the same time most gentle treatment option.

Dr. Christian Jacobi, who is a member of the European Academy of Facial Plastic Surgery (EAFPS) and the German Society for Otorhinolaryngology (DGHNO), has specialized in plastic-aesthetic nose corrections, ear corrections, and eyelid lifts as surgical focal points. His range of treatments also includes all minimally invasive procedures, primarily injections for tissue contouring as well as all concepts of skin rejuvenation and wrinkle treatment. His motto: always offer the best treatment method 'from both worlds.' 'There is never only one surgical or minimally invasive solution. Not every concern can be injected away - this quickly results in disharmonious, no longer naturally appearing results.'

One of his favorite operations is lip lifting, or the so-called bullhorn lift. This primarily serves to rejuvenate the mouth area or to accentuate the upper lip. 'With increasing age, the distance between the nose and upper lip can increase significantly, so that sometimes even when laughing, no teeth are visible anymore. At the same time, there can be a loss of volume in the red part of the lips. Almost reflexively, one thinks in this constellation of using a filler to rejuvenate the mouth area again, and patients come to my practice with the desire for an injection or have already had this done without satisfactory results.'

However, this treatment can quickly lead to the often seen unnatural lip shapes that simply look "done". Natural results – as a reconstruction of the original state – can be achieved more surgically if precisely this distance is restored to its original state. "Through this small lift, the red of the upper lip can be reshaped in its three-dimensionality without creating too much volume," explains Jacobi.

In general, often only a small change is sufficient to underline a positive and vital harmony of the face. Dr. Jacobi sees it as his task and ambition to analyze this carefully and discuss it with his patients. This also applies to cases where too much has already been done. "If boundaries have been crossed or unnatural proportions are apparent, especially due to volume fillers, this should also be specifically addressed."

Dr. Jacobi has specialized in the targeted dissolution of fillers in overfilled faces, undesirable results, or uncontrolled swellings. With his own course formats, he trains other doctors working in aesthetics on how to use ultrasound diagnostics to represent facial anatomy and precisely dissolve previous treatments. In addition, Dr. Jacobi is also in demand as a lecturer and surgeon in anatomy courses and hands-on workshops on aesthetic facial treatments, regularly sharing his expertise and enthusiasm for his field with an international audience.
